Wedding Planning: Rehearsal Dinner or Welcome Event?

You've set your wedding date, booked your Ceremony location and even found your wedding reception space. Congratulations! You're really getting things done.

Now that the details of your special day are coming together, it's time to plan the night before your wedding. And another decision: Rehearsal Dinner or Welcome Event?

At Old Trail Club, we have seen a few different ways to host one or both of these events. Here are a couple of ideas:

  1. Stay with tradition and just provide a Rehearsal Dinner for your VIP guests (close family and friends) and your wedding party. The dinner is usually plated but can be a buffet as well.
  2. Provide an all-inclusive Welcome Event. This event will range from 40 people up to 100+. It can include everyone that is invited to the wedding and reception, or just out-of-town guests. Food may range from a casual BBQ buffet to heavy appetizers, or just desserts!
  3. Provide a little of both. Host your Rehearsal Dinner first. As that part of the evening is winding down, invite all out-of-town guests in for heavy hors d'oeuvres and dessert. This is our favorite event, because it provides something for everyone and gives the couple a chance to greet loved ones before the big day. It's a great way to truly enjoy the presence of those closest to you, and kickstart the festivities.
